If there were ever a time to consider switching up your hair look, it's summer. To survive sweltering weather and beach days, you'll want a cut that is decidedly low-maintenance and able to stand on its own sans hot tools and as close as wash-and-wear as possible. To give you an idea of what styles work best for the hottest season, we asked our favorite hair pros for their best bets.

 

Pretty Makeup Looks to Try in 2016

Clumpy Lashes and Faux Freckles

There was a '70s revival on the spring runways. At Francesco Scognamiglio (say that name ten times fast—or at all), makeup artist Georgina Graham channeled "a teenage Shelley Duvall" with clumpy lashes and faux freckles. Using Lord & Berry Back in Black High Definition Mascara, Graham held the wand parallel to the lashes, brushing it back and forth in a windshield-wiper motion to get them extra clumpy. As for the freckles, she used three different-colored pencils and pressed the blunt tips into the skin to create dots, scattering them over the nose and cheeks and putting them in random places for "a more realistic effect." Keep the foundation light and the lips toned down, and there's nothing retro about this flirty look.

Red Lips—and Nothing Else

"Classic red is back in a big way, but it looks much cooler against bare skin," said makeup artist Pat McGrath, who painted the models' lips a fiery orange-red at Victoria Beckham, using only concealer on their skin. At Jason Wu (shown), makeup artist Yadim applied two coats of crimson liquid lipstick—no foundation, no mascara—then sent the models on their way. Cobalt Liner

Out of the million different ways makeup artists applied blue this season, our favorite version was the major liner look at Jonathan Saunders. Using M.A.C. Chromographic Pencil in Marine Ultra, makeup artist Lucia Pieroni lined the inner rims of the eyes. But she didn't stop there: She traced the top and bottom lash lines and added extra oomph by smooshing a bit of cobalt cream shadow into the roots of the lashes. By having the vivid blue shade both along the waterline and the lash line, the models' eyes looked much brighter and more defined.

Sunset Shadow

The blazing pinks, reds, and oranges of a sunset look just as beautiful on the eyes as they do on Instagram. Case in point: the shadow at Altuzarra's spring 2016 show. Makeup artist Tom Pecheux whipped up the warm hue by mixing red and orange lipstick and spreading the custom blend over the lids and creases with his fingers. We know what you're thinking—"Orange shadow, me?" Just keep reading. "I find orange very flattering on the eyes," says Pecheux. "It's complimentary whether your eyes are blue, green, or brown. And when it comes to skin tone, the darker your skin, the stronger you can go with your orange shade."

Today he looked to his Basque heritage as the background with which to pin this on to. "I was looking at Spanish ceramics," he said by way of explanation backstage. It was in the tie-dye punches and kicks of green and terracotta - all hand-painted and dyed and bleached - and the intricate beading and mother of pearl buttons that formulated across said silhouette as panels on dresses of black and white and nude.
"There's definitely a silhouette," he concurred. "Ultimately I'm attached to a way that I see women. I'm very attached to the attitude of this woman, she's sensual and comfortable in herself, she's doing it for herself. She's a woman, not a girl."
It was a tight edit - linen crinkled dresses, side slits as has become de rigeuer for Altuzarra, cinched waists and pleated separates. Where last season his woman had hotfooted it to the countryside, this season she's eschewing life in the fields for life in the sun - and who's to argue with that?
